SeraPhoenix

"A phoenix is a mythical bird with a colorful plumage and a tail of gold and scarlet (or purple, blue, and green according to some legends). It has a 500 to 1,000 year life-cycle, near the end of which it builds itself a nest of twigs that then ignites; both nest and bird burn fiercely and are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young phoenix or phoenix egg arises, reborn anew to live again. The new phoenix is destined to live as long as its old self. In some stories, the new phoenix embalms the ashes of its old self in an egg made of myrrh and deposits it in the Egyptian city of Heliopolis (sun city in Greek). It is said that the bird's cry is that of a beautiful song. In very few stories they are able to change into humans."

"A seraph (Heb. שׂרף, pl. שׂרפים Seraphim, lat. seraph[us], pl. seraphi[m]) is one of a class of celestial beings mentioned once in the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh or Old Testament), in Isaiah. Later Jewish imagery perceived them as having human form, and in that way they passed into the ranks of Christian angels. In the Christian angelic hierarchy, seraphim represent the highest rank of angels."

"Seraphim literally means "burning ones" in the Hebrew (Sarap, 'to burn')."

That was a little background info. I have officially changed my artist/pen name. I knew I couldn't be LudaCrys forever, no matter how much I liked the name or it fit. I may not even be able to keep the current name, but I haven't heard it anywhere yet, and I have my own interpretation of it.

I have always like the phoenix. I'm not sure when I first learned about it, but I do distinctly remember being into the X-Men comics and Jean Grey. There were these trading cards that I had a few of, and one of them was Jean Grey as Phoenix. That image is still stuck in my mind because here was a powerful woman character...even more powerful and cute. I can't remember if this as when I first researched the phoenix, but I know that is how I remember it.

I have always felt like it was my job to make others happy. Like my sole purpose in life was to make the lives of others around me better. If someone needed a hug, a laugh, or someone to listen, I was there. If someone needed food, clothes, or anything else I could give them, I would. I have pretty much discarded most of that believe (it made me depressed a lot) and kind of replaced that with being somewhat of an angel. In a way, its still my job to be all of the things I've always felt I was supposed to be to people, but I don't take to heart as much this way. Its more of a job instead of a burden.

All of my current tattoos have religious undertones, and one of them is a halo (that looks interesting because for once I let the tattoo artist do as he pleased), wings and tenshi (angel in japanese).

When trying to come up with my new name, I really want to fit me as a person. When I decided to restart doing a poetry blog, I had dug up my old poetry blog to share with someone (special) who was really showing interest in my work. I don't personally think that a lot of it is any good, but there are a few gems in there, and I figured, well, its on the internet anyway, might as well. I ported the old blog from easyjournal to blogger (not fun) and titled it From Phoenix Ashes...because just like the mythical phoenix, I was taking a dead (pretty much) thing and reincarnating it. I even started writing new pieces to add to it. Therefore my poet side was reborn. With all that in mind I had to include the phoenix in my name, but I didn't know how to right away. I though about the tattoo above and decided I also wanted to somehow include my "angelness" in my name as well. I looked up angels and lo and behold, there are angels with the literal Hebrew translation of "burning ones". How could seraphim be any more perfect? Not to mention it fits into a portmanteau with phoenix perfectly as well.

SeraPhoenix is reborn from the negativity, bullshit, chaos, contradictions and ashes of LudaCrys.

Watch for her.
